Scholarships and Grants
At Giant/Super G, our educational assistance programs have been making a difference in the lives of our associates and their families for more than twenty years. Since 1978, Giant has awarded over $5 million in scholarships and grants. Each year the scholarship committee reviews up to 400 applications for scholarships and grants from Giant/Super G associates and their families. Each application is fully assessed to determine the most qualified candidates based on family service with Giant/Super G, academic success, school and community service, and special needs. Below is a brief explanation of each program.

Izzy Cohen Memorial Scholarship
Izzy Cohen, for whom this scholarship is named, was one of the original founders of Giant Food, Inc. who strongly believed in the power of training and education. Applications for this scholarship are available each year in the spring with awards announced prior to summer break. Awards are valued at $4,000 and are renewable for up to 4 years. Applicants must be full time students (12 or more credit hours) currently studying or accepted at an accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.5 or better.

Esther Peterson Memorial Grant
Esther Peterson was one of the most admired women in Giant Food. She pioneered the use of nutritional and unit price labeling in our stores well before any other major food chain and contributed many other significant improvements in her role as Consumer Advocate. This grant, named in her honor, is awarded in conjunction with the Izzy Cohen Scholarships and provides non-renewable awards of $1,000 each.

EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION PROGRAMS

Associate Recognition

Service Awards
Giant honors all full and part-time service associates starting at 5 years of employment and then every 5 years after that. For 5 years of service associates receive a predetermined gift. Starting at 10 years of service associates are able to choose their gift from a selection of gifts. Awards are presented in the Spring of each year.

Quarter Century Club
The Quarter Century Club honors associates who have 25 years of continuous service with The Giant Supermarket Company. All new inductees are invited to a special event held in their honor. Active associates with continuous service with Giant, or in combination with any Ahold USA Company, are inducted into the Quarter Century Club in the year in which their 25th anniversary falls.

LIFE SOLUTIONS

EAP

WHAT IS THE EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM?
The Giant Employee Assistance Program is a voluntary, confidential referral program designed to help our associates and their families find services to help with their personal problems.

WHAT KIND OF HELP IS AVAILABLE?
The EAP serves as a link between you and a network of helpful resources.  The EAP can put you in touch with professionals who will offer support and guidance with many types of problems, including family, financial, legal, child or elder concerns. Organizations used by the EAP for referral include public, non-profit, and private agencies.

Helping Hands
Helping Hands strives to make a difference in the lives of associates who are faced with an extraordinary personal tragedy, sudden extreme financial hardship or catastrophic loss. The Helping Hands fund is intended to fill a gap in the resources available to associates during their most difficult times. At Giant and Stop & Shop, we have long and rich traditions of taking care of our own. There are countless examples of our associates banding together to help fellow associates in need. Helping Hands is designed to complement and formalize what our associates have championed through the years. Helping Hands is supported by the contributions of the Company and our associates.

All Giant employees may not be eligible for all benefits. If there are discrepancies between information in this summary and the applicable plan documents or insurance contracts, the plan documents and insurance contracts will govern. Giant reserves the right to modify any or all components of the Company's benefit plans at the sole discretion of management. Although employees will be notified in advance where possible, any such changes may occur with or without notice.
