A Culture of Caring

Voluntary Contributions

United Way – Associates contribute annually to this program through payroll deduction. The campaign is held in the fall at all locations. The United Way is an organization that raised funds for community partners to create lasting, positive change. By addressing basic needs like housing, job training and health insurance for children, we strive to create social and economic opportunity, especially for children and families. Stop & Shop pledges over 1.5 million dollars to United Way

JDRF - The Walk to Cure Diabetes is a walkathon, held in more than 200 locations throughout the year, benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. All locations in CSD are asked to participate in this event. Typically held in the early fall.

GL – Feed a Family Hunger Box Packing Project - To encourage volunteerism to pack 15,000 Hunger Boxes with food items. The boxes are sold at Giant and Super G stores during the holidays and donated to area food banks.

Stuff A Bus Promotion - Listeners of Mix 106.5, a popular Baltimore radio station that broadcasts live from four Giant locations during the weekend before Thanksgiving. DJs encourage listeners to drop off non-perishable food items to fill up Maryland Transit Authority buses. Donations go to the Maryland Food Bank. The promotion ties in with Giant’s charitable focus on assisting local food banks.

Stuff A Truck Promotion - Viewers of WTTG Fox 5 TV and several Infinity radio stations that broadcast in the Washington, DC area. Similar to the Stuff A Bus promotion, but media partners broadcast live from five Giant locations in the DC area to encourage food donations to fill up food bank trucks. Donations go to the Capital Area Food Bank.

The promotion ties in with Giant’s charitable focus on assisting local food banks.
